City Council Passes Action Alternative (4,000 units, 85’ buildings)
Before the final vote was accepted, Councilmember Kent Treen presented three alternative motions:
1. A hybrid option that would keep the 2,000-unit cap. Councilmember Lam seconded the motion. After discussion, the Council voted 6–1 against approving it.
2. Two additional alternatives were also introduced by Councilmember Treen but did not receive a second and therefore did not move forward.
At the July 15, 2025 Sammamish City Council meeting, the Council voted on the future of the Town Center. They were asked to select one of three proposed alternatives:
Proposed Options:
1. No Action Alternative
Keeps the current cap of 2,000 housing units. Likely results in mostly townhomes and fewer community amenities such as retail, restaurants, and civic spaces.
2. Action Alternative
Allows up to 4,000 units with a mix of apartments and condos, plus retail, restaurant, and civic spaces. Impacts are noted but considered manageable with proper mitigation and design.
3. Hybrid Alternative
A middle-ground option with 2,000–4,000 units, aiming to balance community amenities, density, and alignment with citywide goals.

It was great to see this level of community involvement and engagement!
Thanks to everyone who tried so hard to keep our community on track with the earlier plan of 2000 units. Don't give up the fight. James

DeleteIs there anything we can still do to stop or delay this before it becomes binding? Sammamish's "TOWN CENTER PLAN & CODE AMENDMENT SCHEDULE – JUNE 2025" shows the Final SEIS will be published in August 2025 and the Final Plan & Code will adopted in December 2025 well before any newly elected council members would take office in January 2026. Once those decisions are adopted, they become legally binding and at that point the only option left to challenge them would be to prove a SEPA violation. Given that, what petition or referendum tools are available now to force a pause or contest this before December, and how would proving SEPA non-compliance work in that context?
ReplyDeleteOf the people running to fill one of the City council spots, I know that Yang is in favor of the 4,000 TC expansion, but what about the other 2 candidates? Karthik Seethataman and Michael Boyer?
